The Awakening of New Life

“Talking”

‘Thinking’

*Movements/Emotions*

༻﹡﹡Baji’s POV﹡﹡༺

As I walked away from the old man’s house, I could still faintly hear his voice calling after me. Ignoring it, I continued on my way home, taking a detour to hunt some meat for my mother.

Once I finished hunting, I headed straight back.

When I arrived, I found my mom kneeling in the front yard, planting herbs and vegetables.

“Mom? What are you doing?”
I asked, puzzled. She wasn’t just planting; she was talking to the plants.

But instead of answering, she ignored me, continuing her strange conversation with the greenery.

“Sigh… have you gone crazy while I was away for five days—ouch!”
I winced as something hit me square on the head. It was a piece of wood she used to plant in the soil.

“M-Mom?!”
I exclaimed, rubbing the lump forming on my head.

“You brat! What do you mean gone crazy—”
she started angrily before cutting herself off. Her eyes widened in shock as she noticed the poorly wrapped bandages covering my body.

“Gosh! What happened to you?!”

“Oh, I got ambushed by some of my gang’s enemies… so, yeah…”
I said awkwardly, sweating nervously. I could already feel her fury rising.

“Say what?!”
She rushed over to me, her hands frantically checking for more wounds or bruises.

“Tell me, cub! Are you hurt anywhere else? Let this mother of yours know immediately!”

“Mom, I’m fine. Really. It’s nothing serious,”
I tried to assure her, but she wasn’t buying it.

“Did you see the witch doctor?”
she asked, her voice firm.

“Yes, I went there…,”
I replied quickly, but then paused, realizing I had walked out before the old man had finished treating me.

“Baji Keisuke! Why didn’t you let the witch doctor treat you properly?! Come on, we’re going back right now!”
She smiled, but it was the same eerie smile Lang Zhu had given me earlier.

Uh-oh.

Sorry, old man…

“N-no, Mom, it’s okay! I’ll go back there by myself,”
I stammered, clearly alarmed.

“No, I’m coming with you,”
she insisted, her tone leaving no room for argument.

Panic rose inside me. I had to think of something—fast.

‘Think, Baji, think…!’

Then, an idea hit me.

“Mom, why don’t you stay here and prepare the fresh meat I just hunted?”
I suggested.

“While you clean it, I’ll go back to the witch doctor. That way, we don’t waste any time, right?”

She hesitated but eventually sighed, her worry softening.

“Fine! Geez… males really are stubborn,”
she muttered, grabbing the meat with a pout before starting to clean and slice it.

I let out a sigh of relief. Crisis averted. I almost got the old man in trouble!

“Cub, what are you waiting for? Go back to the witch doctor and get yourself treated properly!”
she called after me, tossing something else my way. This time, I managed to dodge it.

“Yes, yes, I’m going!”
I called back, already turning to head to Lang Zhu’s place.

༻﹡﹡No One’s POV﹡﹡༺

The chaotic energy of the trio in Langzhu’s small home filled the air with an odd tension, almost comedic in its nature. Lang Zhu carefully observed Takemichi, who was still a bit pale from his ordeal but was doing his best to stay composed.

Despite his condition, his natural beauty and kindness were shining through, and Lang Zhu couldn’t help but think about how rare it was to find someone like him.

As Takemichi nervously chewed on the bitter grass, Mikey and Draken hovered close by, their protective instincts taking over, even though Mikey tried to play it off as no big deal.

Draken was the calmer of the two, but Lang Zhu could tell that he was just as concerned. These two were fiercely devoted to Takemichi, something that Langzhu found admirable.

Langzhu’s mind continued to wander as he finished examining Takemichi. His thoughts drifted to Baji, Mikey’s childhood friend and a respected figure within their circle. A perfect candidate for Takemichi, perhaps.

He couldn’t shake the idea of introducing them. Takemichi needed someone who could match his strength and tenderness, and Baji, despite his fiery temper, might just be that person.

“Although you’re healing well,”
Lang Zhu finally said, breaking the silence,

“I want to make sure everything is truly in order. You’ll stay here tonight, and in the morning, I’ll give you one last check.”

Draken and Mikey exchanged glances. It was clear they trusted Lang Zhu, even if they weren’t thrilled about staying in the wolf tribe’s territory for longer than necessary.

Takemichi looked to them for approval, not wanting to make the decision alone.

“Well,”
Mikey shrugged, a small smile on his face,

“if you want to stay, we’ll stay. Your health comes first, Takemitchy.”

Takemichi’s cheeks reddened slightly at the soft touch of Mikey’s hand on his face, though he tried to brush it off with a casual laugh.

“Right, thanks, Mikey-kun, Draken-kun. I appreciate it.”

Lang Zhu watched them with amusement but didn’t forget about the other pressing matter. He needed to get Mikey treated as well, especially with those deep wounds.

Takemichi, determined to ensure Mikey was taken care of, turned to Lang Zhu with pleading eyes.

“Lang zhu-san, please check Mikey’s wounds too. He’s been through a lot.”

Mikey, though trying to appear tough, couldn’t hide the exhaustion in his eyes. Lang Zhu nodded, already knowing he’d have to look after the stubborn young man.

As Lang Zhu tended to Mikey, his thoughts lingered on how to approach the situation with Baji.

It wasn’t every day that he saw such devotion and care between mates, and Takemichi’s radiant kindness was something he didn’t want to see wasted. Introducing Baji could be a solution to many things, but the challenge would be managing Baji’s temper.

With a sigh, Lang Zhu set his plan in motion mentally, knowing that sooner or later, Baji would have to meet Takemichi.

And when that happened, things could get interesting.

The three said their goodbyes and left Lang zhu’s house, leaving him alone.

With a deep sigh, Lang Zhu began cleaning up, placing his tools back in their proper spots and tidying the space. The silence was peaceful, but it didn’t last long.

“Old man! Mom said— I mean, please finish treating me!”
A loud voice boomed from the entrance, startling Lang Zhu so much that he nearly dropped a jar of herbs.

“Gah! Again?! This is the second time today!”
Lang Zhu shouted, rubbing his chest as if that would calm his racing heart.

He shot a glare at the intruder, only to find Baji standing there with a confused expression on his face.

“Hah? What do you mean, ‘second time’?”
Baji tilted his head, genuinely puzzled by Lang zhu’s reaction.

Lang Zhu grumbled under his breath, glaring at Baji as though the younger man’s mere presence was offensive.

‘Geez, if you keep acting like this, how am I supposed to introduce you to the little male? You brat…’

The next morning, Takemichi awoke to find the three others already gone from their beds.

He figured Draken and Mikey were probably out hunting, like yesterday. Stretching, he stood and made his way to the room where they had cooked the day before, planning to start preparing some ingredients.

As he moved toward the kitchen, a sudden wave of warmth washed over him, causing him to flinch and stop in his tracks. For some reason, he instantly knew the source of the warmth.

“My… my… my egg!”
Takemichi shouted, panicking.

His heart raced as he dashed back to the bedroom, frantically searching for his bag.

Grabbing it with trembling hands, he yanked it open and plunged his hand inside, quickly pulling out the egg. When he brought it out, his breath hitched.

A large crack had formed on the egg’s surface.

He stared at it, wide-eyed and frozen, unsure of what had caused the crack or what to do.

The egg looked like it could shatter at any moment. Fear gripped him—what if it broke completely? What if whatever was inside… died?

Takemichi felt his throat tighten with emotion. For reasons he couldn’t fully explain, he loved this egg deeply. The thought of losing it was unbearable, tears already threatening to spill from his eyes. He had to act fast.

Laying a clean, soft cloth over the egg, he wrapped it carefully before rushing outside.

He knew exactly who could help him: Lang Zhu. He sprinted toward the witch doctor’s home, praying that he wasn’t too late.

As he bolted out of the cave, Draken and Mikey were just returning.

They stopped in their tracks, eyes widening as they saw Takemichi running in a panic. Without a word, they quickly took off after him, easily catching up.

“Takemitchy! Where are you going?”
Draken called out, his voice laced with concern.

Takemichi barely registered the question, too focused on reaching Lang Zhu.

Mikey, however, had sharp eyes. He noticed the cloth Takemichi was clutching close to his chest and pointed at it.

“Takemitchy, what’s that?”

Draken followed Mikey’s gesture and finally noticed the bundle.

“Wait, is that why you’re running? What’s going on?”
Draken asked, his concern deepening.

“I’m going to Lang zhu-san to—”
Takemichi began to explain, but Draken didn’t let him finish. He scooped Takemichi up effortlessly.

“Are you hurt?!”
Draken asked, his voice full of urgency.

“I’m not!”
Takemichi yelped, struggling in Draken’s hold.

“Put me down!”

Mikey, who had been staring intently at the cloth, pointed at it again.

“Then… is it because of that?”
he asked calmly.

Takemichi frowned at Mikey’s insistence on pointing at the egg. He didn’t like the way Mikey kept gesturing toward it, as if the egg was some trivial object.

“Takemitchy… what’s in that cloth?”
Draken asked again, curiosity growing.

His expression was serious now, as he stared at the mysterious bundle that had Mikey so focused.

“This?”
Takemichi hesitated before finally answering,

“It’s… it’s my egg…”

Draken froze, shock evident on his face.

“W-what?! Your egg?! Mikey, what does he mean by that?!”

Draken turned to Mikey in disbelief, panic beginning to rise. Mikey had always been with Takemichi since they met—did this mean Takemichi had already…?

“Did you steal Takemitchy from his partner?!”
Draken accused, his mind spinning as he tried to make sense of the situation.

The thought of Takemichi being bonded to someone else filled him with dread. His chest ached as wild thoughts raced through his head.

Mikey and Takemichi burst into laughter at Draken’s frantic reaction.

Confused, Draken stared at them. Why were they laughing? This was serious!

“Why are you two laughing?!”
Draken demanded, his face a mix of frustration and embarrassment.

After calming down, Takemichi stepped forward and hugged Draken tightly, surprising him. Mikey, now serious, explained the story of how he and Takemichi met.

“…So, that’s what happened?”
Draken mumbled, feeling foolish. His face turned red with shame as he hid it behind his large hands.

“Yeah, kinda,”
Takemichi added, rubbing the back of his neck.

“But this egg… it’s not really mine…”

Mikey and Draken both stared at him, their eyes narrowing in suspicion.

“Wait, what do you mean?”
Draken asked, his earlier panic starting to fade but still lingering at the edge of his mind.

Takemichi explained how the egg had already been with him when he and Mikey met. Though he didn’t know where the egg’s parents were, he had felt a strong connection to it. Draken and Mikey believed him but remained uneasy about the situation.

“Takemichi, but the egg—”
Draken started, only to be interrupted by the sound of cracking.

Everyone froze.

The sound was coming from the cloth Takemichi held. His heart nearly stopped as he looked down at the egg, his face turning pale. How could he have forgotten about it?!

Mikey quickly unwrapped the cloth, revealing small pieces of shell falling away. The egg was hatching.

Without hesitation, Mikey grabbed the egg and hurried inside the cave, leaving Takemichi standing there in shock.

“Mikey-kun?! What are you doing?!”
Takemichi shouted after him, still trying to process everything. He was startled again when Draken picked him up and rushed back into the cave with him.

As they entered, Draken whispered,

“Takemichi… your egg… it’s hatching.”

Takemichi’s eyes widened as the reality of the situation hit him.

The egg was hatching—right now. A mixture of awe and fear washed over him. Whatever was inside, it was about to come into the world.
